Multan Sultans and Karachi Kings Secure Victories in Pakistan Super League | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Multan Sultans continued their strong start in the Pakistan Super League by defeating defending champion Lahore Qalandars for their third consecutive loss.
In another match, Karachi Kings secured a dominant seven-wicket victory over Peshawar Zalmi, thanks to an outstanding performance by experienced power-hitter Kieron Pollard.
Pollard’s unbeaten knock of 49 off just 21 balls, including four sixes and four boundaries, led Karachi to a comfortable total of 157/3 in 16.5 overs. This win marked Karachi’s first victory in the tournament.
Babar Azam, who recently became the fastest batter to reach 10,000 runs in T20 cricket, showcased his brilliance once again with a composed innings of 72 off 51 balls. However, his efforts were in vain as Peshawar Zalmi could only manage a total of 154 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Peshawar’s innings relied heavily on Babar’s partnership with Rovman Powell, who contributed 39 runs. Asif Ali also chipped in with 23 runs. However, Peshawar’s batting collapsed in the final four overs, losing their last six wickets for just 18 runs. Mir Hamza played a crucial role for Karachi with his three wickets, including the dismissal of Babar Azam.
In the other match, Multan Sultans secured a thrilling five-wicket victory over Lahore Qalandars. Lahore’s pace attack, led by Shaheen Shah Afridi, failed to defend their total once again as Multan’s Iftikhar Ahmed smashed an unbeaten 34 runs off just 11 balls to seal the win.
Skipper Mohammad Rizwan played a captain’s knock with a brilliant innings of 82 runs off 59 balls for Multan. Despite dropping him on 40, Lahore’s bowlers struggled to contain Rizwan’s aggressive batting. In the end, Iftikhar’s powerful hitting proved to be the difference-maker.
Lahore’s Rassie van der Dussen and Fakhar Zaman contributed with scores of 54 and 41 respectively, pushing their team to a challenging total. However, Multan’s Mohammad Ali impressed with his bowling skills, taking two wickets and restricting Lahore’s total.
With this win, Multan Sultans sit comfortably at the top of the table with six points from three consecutive home wins, while Lahore Qalandars are still searching for their first victory of the season.
